The Azalea is a flowering shrub in the genus Rhododendron, cultivated as a decorative plant due to its gorgeous flowers. Azaleas bloom in the spring and their flowers can survive for several weeks. Despite their beauty, the leaves and nectar of Azaleas are highly toxic. They have been bred for hundreds of years and are native to Asia, Europe and North America. Azaleas are propagated via cuttings, though their seeds can be collected and germinated. Today there are over 10,000 different cultivars and festivals are held annually in Japan, Korea, Hong Kong and the United States.
